This is a show where a
man narrated a story and a woman drew chalk pictures of it. There are actually
two series of that kind: one was from CTI; the other from AIT.
CTI produced "Gather 'Round" in 1978. In it, Paul Lally told traditional
fairy tales and folk stories such as The Princess and the Pea, Brer Rabbit and
the Pied Piper. One show, featuring The Fisherman and His Wife, had Paul talking
to artist Rae Owings. She explained how she uses special chalk (too delicate
for a chalkboard) on brown wrapping paper.
The follow-up series was "Teletales" from 1984. AIT had that show,
courtesy of John Robbins' old production company. "Teletales" had
Rae and Paul doing more obscure folk tales, such as Fiddy Wow Wow and Caliph
Stork.
Paul Lally and Rae Owings were also principals for many other John Robbins shows,
such as the eight "Cover to Cover" series, "The Book Bird,"
"Storybound," and "Readit."
Teletales was produced for AIT by John Robbins. As I
may have mentioned before, Paul Lally narrated the tales, and Rae Owings drew
them.
